The Story Behind HOSE WILLY™
Some of the best ideas are born on the water. Back in the 1970s, professional yacht captains needed a better way to wash their boats while docked in tight marina slips. Standard high pressure nozzles sent water spraying everywhere — soaking neighboring vessels and leaving water spots on expensive finishes that nobody wanted to explain to the boat next door.
So they did what captains do — they improvised. They cut a short section of garden hose, attached it to their pistol grip nozzle, and discovered something remarkable. A gentle, controlled, low pressure flow that cleaned beautifully and stayed exactly where they aimed it — on their boat and nowhere else. They called it the Hose Willy™.
For decades it stayed a professional secret — passed down through the marine detailing world but never brought to market. Until now.
